We Support John B. King for Secretary of Education

February 25, 2016

Today the Senate is holding a confirmation hearing for Dr. John B. King to become the U.S. Secretary of Education. Dr. King has been acting Secretary since Arne Duncan stepped down from the role last October. Dr. King has rich experience that makes him exceptionally deserving to lead the U.S. Department of Education, including roles as Principal Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of Education and Commissioner of the New York State Department of Education.
We’re also pleased that Dr. King has direct experience with charter schools. He formerly ran Uncommon Schools, a network of high-performing charter public schools that exemplifies core values such as high standards, accountability, curiosity and a college-going culture. In 2010, he was inducted into the National Charter Schools Hall of Fame for his significant contribution to the growth and development of charter public schools. For all these accomplishments and his dedication to educational equity for all students, the National Alliance offers our strong support to Dr. King and urge the Senate to confirm his nomination.
