Kathryn Rice, Baton Rouge College Preparatory Charter School

August 25, 2015

This August, Kathryn Rice will launch the new Baton Rouge College Preparatory Charter School for fifth and sixth grade students. Coming out of the Building Excellent Schools program, Ms. Rice will serve as School Director, bringing many years of experience as an educator to her new role. Working as a public school educator for over a decade in the greater Baton Rouge area, Ms. Rice has experience in traditional public schools as a teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal and principal. Ms. Rice has also worked for three years in turn around schools.
Baton Rouge College Preparatory Charter School will prepare students in predominantly underserved communities for success in high school and college. Focusing specifically on the academic development of fifth and sixth graders, students attending Baton Rouge College Prep will have longer school days than most public schools and will dedicate three hours to reading and two hours to math studies on a daily basis. In addition, students will have individualized tutoring each day. On why she chose to start the new charter school with only fifth and sixth grades, Ms. Rice stated that, “We’re making sure that we are genuinely catching kids up so we can roll on up into middle school and make sure they are ready for college.” By getting her kids on the right track early, Ms. Rice ensures that they achieve academic success and excel academically in college and beyond.
