A Glimpse into the Class of 2018 at SouthTech Academy

SouthTech Academy’s mission is to prepare students for work, higher education, and productive citizenship. They are based in Boyton Beach, Florida.

Read more about this year’s senior class and our special highlight of two charter school graduates from the school.

SouthTech Academy’s Class of 2018
• First class to matriculate from the middle school – SouthTech Preparatory Academy – to graduation at SouthTech Academy;
• Half of STA’s Top 10% of students are a product of both SouthTech Academy and SouthTech Preparatory Academy;
• Unofficial graduation rate of 97.4%;
• 98% of students graduated with an industry certification, and/or AP/dual enrollment; and
• Students received $1.1 million in scholarships.

Leila Metellus is a graduate of SouthTech Academy’s Medical Sciences Academy. Graduating #4 in her class with a 4.4 GPA, she exemplifies the finest in academic performance and will soon be an undergraduate at the University of Miami.
During her time at SouthTech Academy, Leila served as the Vice President of the National Honor Society. She was also an active member of SouthTech Academy’s Student Government Association, Life Seekers Christian Club, Distributive Clubs of America, and she served as a Safe School Ambassador. Aside from the extracurricular activities at school, she also has volunteered in the community, including work at the Jewish Community Center Daycare, House of Grace Church and Habitat for Humanity.

Widjine Noel is a graduate of SouthTech Academy’s Medical Sciences Academy, where she earned multiple industry certifications as well as academic honors. Widjine’s extensive collection of industry certifications range from Microsoft Office Specialist to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Certified Nursing Assistant. She will soon be attending Florida State University.
During her time at SouthTech Academy, Widjine has demonstrated her commitment to her school and community. She has served the needs of patients at Barrington Terrace. In her capacity at Salvation Army Corps’ Summer Camp Counselor, she has impacted young people in the community by developing skills in teamwork, sportsmanship and safety. If there is an extracurricular activity, Widjine participates, and if there is a need, she rises to the occasion.
