Becky Magnuson, Tesfa International Academy

September 11, 2015

This fall, Tesfa International School will open its doors to students entering kindergarten through sixth grade. Tesfa means hope in Amharic, a language spoken in Ethiopia and it is the hope and goal of those leading the opening of this new school to institute transformational change in education. The school aims to become an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) in order to prepare students to become internationally-minded learners who recognize their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet.
School Director Becky Magnuson has spent the last fourteen years as a public school educator and administrator. She began in public education teaching second, fourth and fifth grade, as well as reading intervention. While working for St. Louis Park Public Schools, she became the school’s first International Baccalaureate Coordinator launching the Primary Year Program in its first years of implementation. For six years she worked as the Assistant Principal of Lincoln Center, an IB World School in South St Paul. At Tesfa, all scholars will have access to a rigorous conceptual based curriculum. The school will strive to ensure that every scholar is equipped with the foundational skills necessary to excel academically in middle school and beyond.  Student scholars attending this PYP school will develop and grow as active, caring, lifelong learners who think globally and use their knowledge to help make their school, community and world a better place.
