Charter public school advocates in Michigan recently took their message to the state capitol in Lansing. The Charter School Advocacy Day was organized by the Michigan Association of Public School Academies (MAPSA), the state’s charter support organization, and included 500 parents, board members, and supporters who met with 73 legislators. In addition, two charter school choirs—from Cornerstone Health and Technology High School in Detroit and Light of the World Academy in Pinckney—performed in the Capitol rotunda.
The event helped bring home to Michigan leaders how much the state’s charter public school families and supporters care about their schools, and what a difference charter schools are making in their communities.
