I’m Fred, and I’m a senior at Capital City Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. I’ve been attending my charter school since Pre-K, so I’ve seen the school evolve over the years. It’s pretty cool to be a part of a school that’s grown from 50 students to nearly 900.
The opportunities I’ve had as a charter school student have changed my life. As a child with a learning disability, my school has really worked to accommodate my needs so I never feel neglected or overwhelmed. I used to believe I wasn’t really good at anything. But my teachers taught me that all I really need to do is try and force myself to do my best and I’ll be able to achieve whatever I really want. Now I’m excited to graduate, go on to college, and earn a Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering. I feel ready – I know my charter school has really prepared me to confront the rigorous coursework that program will require. I’m proud of my charter school, and I hope more students like me can have the chance to attend a great school like mine.
