Two recently released national polls show that the majority of Americans support public charter schools.
The 47th annual PDK/Gallup Poll of the public’s attitudes toward public schools find that 64 percent of Americans favor charter schools—a similar level of support as last year. Hearteningly, across Black, Hispanic, and white adults—six in ten parents felt they had enough information to make an informed choice about selecting a school for their child, while more than 90 percent of all demographic groups felt that teacher quality was the most important factor in choosing a school for their child. The EducationNext poll found that 51 percent of the public supports charter schools, which is twice as much support for charters as opposition. EdNext also published a helpful side-by-side of the PDK and its own poll to show how differences in the poll question can impact the result.
