For these new adventures coming in the next four years of my life, and the years to come, I have learned a very important lesson: I am the phoenix. I rise from the ashes. I control my fate. I will be okay. To assure myself when I am faced with new possibilities, I will continue to keep my head high. As I leave high school behind to begin my own path, I pray that all of us do the same. Thank you, Achievement First Amistad High—recently named the #1 high school in the state of Connecticut by U.S. News & World Report—for teaching me not to allow negativity to beat me down. Life has taught me that I am my own person, and nobody can “do me,” like I can. Thank you to my teacher Mr. Bernard, for not only being my teacher but also my best friend and a constant support through all four years. Thank you to my family and friends for being a part of my life and allowing me to flourish in my new one. And thank you to my Mom for sacrificing the world for me and going through 26 hours of labor! She has done everything to carry me this far, and I owe it all to her. As my high school journey ends, I am happy to say I have made it. Yes, I am terrified of this new life – but, I will not be a statistic. My new journey starts in the fall of 2017 at the University of Richmond!
