The Power of Community

The Power of Community

June 3, 2016

I remember my first day at St. Croix Preparatory Academy very vividly. The night before my first day, I slept very little. I was pretty terrified. I had seen the uniforms of St. Croix Prep students and, as a twelve-year-old, I quickly associated school uniforms with snooty private school children from movies. The next morning, however, I was brave enough to eat breakfast and catch the bus to my future.
I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. St. Croix Prep is a very community based school, which was very evident to me after my first two hours. The student body welcomed me with arms wide open, almost immediately. The teachers really made efforts to facilitate my transition. One of the things I like most about St. Croix Prep is that it is a new school with lots of room for growth, and I have seen tremendous growth already. I believe strongly in communities and community involvement. Through my years at St. Croix Prep, I have seen the school embrace the power of community whole heartedly. It started with small projects that reached a small circle of individuals, but has grown into a beautiful demonstration of service, kindness, and respect paid back to the community around St. Croix Prep, from the community of St. Croix Prep. To be successful, it is necessary to give and receive support from others. Thanks to the community-centered halls of St. Croix Prep, I have had great support throughout my years as a student there, put more into the community than I could have ever imagined, and feel more than confident to go out into the world and be successful. In the fall, I hope to do just that—I am very excited to begin my freshman year of college at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. Click to Tweet: Finding the power of community through a charter school education #30DaysofGrad This month, thousands of high school students will graduate from charter schools across the county.
