WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, the West Virginia Senate revived a public charter school bill in a bold move on behalf of the state’s students. Nina Rees, president and CEO at the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools released the following statement:
“The National Alliance is grateful to the leadership of Senator Bill Cole (R-Mercer) and those Senators who stood with him when the West Virginia Senate resurrected Senate Bill 14 today.
“This legislation, based on national best practices, will allow the growth of high-quality public charter schools in the state for the first time and will serve those students most in need of better public schools. West Virginia is one of the eight states that has yet to enact a public charter school law.
“We urge the Senate and the House to pass this legislation this session.”
