Children of all ages, races, abilities, religions, gender identities, and sexual orientations attend charter schools. All deserve a safe school environment that fosters academic and personal growth, and doesn’t engage in discrimination of any kind. In response to the rescinding of joint Department of Justice and Department of Education guidance aimed at protecting transgender students rights under Title IX, the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools has released the following statement:
“All children deserve to be safe when they walk through the school house door. Transgender students are no exception. We are grateful for the dedicated educators who work every day in schools of all structures district, charter, private, magnet, and more to create a safe environment for all students.
“The National Alliance stands with the schools, educators, and students who have worked to create safe spaces for transgender students. It’s imperative to ensure all students feel safe and accepted.”
