National Alliance Supports Parents and Students Rallying To End New York’s Failing School Crisis

March 4, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, more than 9,000 parents, students, and educators along with 160 schools are rallying in Albany to draw attention to the failing school crisis in New York, calling for a bold change.

Nina Rees, president and CEO at the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools released the following statement on the issue:

“We stand in spirit with the thousands of parents, students and teachers in Albany today talking about their needs, demanding to be heard. A high-quality education promises a bright future, but far too many students end up in schools that have been unable to give them what they need to succeed. The parents, students, and educators calling for bold change to make the power of a good education true for every child can’t be ignored.

“We hope that New York lawmakers will recognize this crisis and respond with the reforms needed to ensure every child can attend a high quality public school. One such reform is to lift the cap on charter schools in New York. Research has consistently shown that charter schools in New York outperform their traditional public school counterparts. Opening more charter schools would directly benefit the children that have no choice.”
