CINCINNATI OH.- Charter public school parents, education and civil rights leaders are speaking up in support of high quality charter public schools and encouraging the NAACP to reconsider their vote to place a national moratorium on new charter schools nationwide. NAACP will vote on the national moratorium during its national board meeting in Cincinnati on October 15th.
The Meet & Greet in Cincinnati will feature parents and charter school leaders from Ohio and across the US, including Rashad Turner who recently left the Black Lives Matter after the organization’s leadership called for the end of charter schools. The discussion will focus on the role of charter schools in public education and how these schools are providing high-quality school options in many communities that lack access to successful public schools. Participants will offer an in depth look at the data that shows how charter schools are performing for Black students.
Nationally, more than one million names remain on waiting lists for charter schools and a moratorium on charter schools will not solve the problems the NAACP seeks to address. Parents, education and civil rights leaders are enthusiastic about opening up a dialogue with the NAACP about how to move forward together on improving public education for all students.
