These elegant 19th century French "Iris" opera glasses were made in Paris. The barrels and eye caps are clad in iridescent mother-of-pearl with a warm golden glow that has flashes of pink and green. The brass frame is accented with narrow bands bearing ridged decoration.
The opera glasses are in very good original condition with no chips or cracks to the mother-of-pearl or lenses. The brass has not been polished. As an antique item, the opera glasses show signs of age including minor wear/tarnish to the brass frame along with dust trapped inside the chambers and a silvering bleed around the outer edge of the left front lens, all of which do not affect the focused image and are mentioned for accuracy. The central focusing knob is fully operational and the lenses respond to its use, elongating and focusing the view. As seen in photos 5 and 8, the eye caps are etched with the words "IRIS PARIS". There are no other maker's marks present.
