Up for sale is a beautiful TEAC CX-650R from the late 70s. This is a high-end, 3-head, auto-reverse machine known for its tank-like build and incredible audio fidelity. This unit is being sold in "As-Is" condition for parts or restoration.
Physical Condition:
- Overall very clean silver faceplate with minimal wear.
- VU meters are clear and the internal lights are functional.
Functional Testing:
- Power: Unit powers on successfully.
- Logic Controls: All buttons respond; indicator lights (Direction and Play) engage when pressed.
- Motors: Fast Forward (FF) and Rewind (REW) are strong and fully functional.
- Counter: The 3-digit tape counter is working and resets to 000.
The Issue:
- When Play is pressed, the indicator light turns on, but the rollers do not spin. This unit likely needs a new playback belt (common for a deck of this age). Because the tape won't spin in Play mode, audio output remains untested.
